Flamepaw pushed his way through a briar, the thorny stems recoiled from his touch, opening to the moor. Hungrily, he searched the field for Mythpaw. She wasn't there. He sighed and dragged himself out all the way so he could wait for her someplace comfortable.
"Miss me?' He laughing voice asked. Flamepaw spun around, greeted by the form of Mythpaw. He smiled. "Of course! What has it been, twenty minutes? I think my fur will fall out from missing you."
"Your not bald yet." She commented dryly. "And its been at least 25 minutes." A laugh broke into her voice and Flamepaw joined in. A rabbit edged out of a grass thicket, sniffing the air. Cautiously, it started nosing through a patch of clover. Mythpaw grinned, motioning for silence. Expertly she crept up on the rabbit and when she was only a few tail lengths again she raced after it. The rabbit fled but Myhtpaw caught up with it. A few moments later she returned, proudly holding out her prize. "Want some?" She asked.
Flamepaw hesitated, not sure if he should take another pack's prey. But he couldn't disappoint her. He took a bite and found it delicious.
Suddenly something hit him on the nose. Flamepaw umped back, franticaly looking around everywhere. Mythpaw laughed. He bristled in indignation. "What was that for?" He demanded.
"You had a bit of dust on your nose." SHe woofed innocently. Flamepaw blinked, rubbing his nose with one paw. Mythpaw's gaze flicked over to a passing butterfly. Flamepaw grinned and jumped on her. She yelped in surprise, then battered her paws against his stomach, laughing. Flamepaw grinned and grabbed one of her ears. "You have some dust on your ear." He joked. SHe laughed again.
"Flamepaw! What are you doing!" Emberpelt emerged from Riverpack territory, his eyes dark. Flamepaw scrambled backwards, his eyes wide with fear. "Don't please, I didn't do anything wrong!" He wailed. Emberpelt unsheathed his claws, nearly three times bigger than his son.
"What are you doing!" Mythpaw cried, trying to shield Flamepaw. Emberpelt snarled.
"What I should have done a while ago! You don't know what it is to be in a pack, your not a clan wolf at all! I should have known after I learned that Fightsurge went off with that scum Recif." Fightsurge shook his head.
"No! Im loyal to my pack, but I love Mythpaw, you can't change that, you don't know what real loyalty is!"
Emberpelt snarled. "The pack will be better off with you dead." He leapt at FLamepelt, pushing Mythpaw out of the way. FLamepaw howled in fear and anger and tried to claw Emberpelt's face. "Not so easy!" He snarled. He raked his claws over Flamepaw's throat. The apprentice yelled in horror and fell to the ground, not quite dead yet. EMberpelt fled to over the river.
Mythpaw howled in agony. Dead! He couldn't be dead! Never a warrior, never a father. Angelpaw's scent drifted towards her. "I'll be back." She promised. Flamepaw groaned.
Mythpaw dragged Angelpaw to Flamepaw. "Please!" SHe begged. "Save him!" ANgelpaw shook her head. "Hes to far gone. No herbs can save him." Mythpaw wailed. For a moment Flamepaw opened his eyes, he groaned. "Mythpaw..." His voice sounded like a whisper.
SHe turned to Angelpaw again. "THen give him a warrior name, his own father killed him, he deserves at least that." Angelpaw's eyes flew open in shock. "I.. I can't... " SHe hesitated at Mythpaw rounded on her. "I love him! Can't you do even this for him!" Angelpaw sighed. "Okay, I'll try and hope Starpack honors it." She paused.
"This apprentice has earned the name of a true warrior, as he lived and again as he now lays dying. With the power Starclan has gifted me with as medicine cat apprentice, I give this wolf his warrior name. Flamepaw, I ask no oath from you, because you have already proven yourself. I name you Flamespirit, in honor of your spirit, love, and courage." Her voice trailed away and ended in a whisper. She closed er eyes in grief. Mythpaw lay besides Flamepaw, licking his fur until he died.
