Phoenixfeather stirred in her sleep, her ears and tail twitching. She woke up, blinking open her yellow eyes. To her amazement, she was all alone. The other warriors were probably busy hunting, patrolling, eating, or sharing tongues.

Moonpaw walked into the warrior's den with a chunk of deer. She saw that Phoenixfeather wasn't out and about, so she brought her something to eat. "Heya, Phoenixfeather. I brought you some lunch," she woofed around the deer meat.

Phoenixfeather looked up, a faint smile tracing her lips. "Thank you, Moonpaw.", she woofed softly, but inside she was still frowning.

"Hey, no problem. That's what friends are for, right? Say, hows about me, you, Thornshadow, Ashpaw, and Whiterain go on a patrol later?" she woofed.

Phoenixfeather quietly considered this. She focused back on Moonpaw again. "If Whiterain assigns us to the same patrol."

"Hopefully," Moonpaw woofed. "I'll be right back. I'm going to get me a rabbit." Moonpaw left then returned with a rabbit.

Phoenixfeather watched her leave and return. She sighed, not knowing what to say.

"So, how do you like it around here?" Moonpaw asked casually. Pheonixfeather was on the side of her bad eye, so she had to turn her head all the way around to look at her.

"It's fine I guess.", Phoenixfeather lied, but her despair was easy to read on her face.

"What's wrong? I know I am just an apprentice, but I'm a good listener," she woofed. She turned to face Phoenixfeather.

Phoenixfeather sighed again. "It's my father, Tornear. I can't help but think he did something terribly wrong, when I was an apprentice. It's kind of frustrating taking care of him now, because he's an elder, and he's always complaining. I feel like I'm no longer his daughter, but his servant."

Moonpaw felt bad for her. "Well, he IS an elder after all. You know how they are, they always complain. I bet if you just sat down and talked to him, he would not complain as much. I'm sure he loves you, all parents do. I never knew mine," her voice started to crack.

Thornshadow stepped in to the warrior's den. "Moonpaw? What are you doing here?"

"Thornshadow! I was just talking to Phoenixfeather, I also got her some lunch. I'm sorry. I guess I should leave," Moonpaw's tail went between her legs as she whimpered. She stepped out of the den.

"I know, but warriors are meant to patrol, hunt, train apprentices. I can't run after Tornear all the time. The apprentices are supposed to help the elders anyway. I know I probably sound selfish, but....I just don't know. And if he truly loved me as his daughter, then why'd he go and--", she woofed, then became silent.
