After a long, hard, and tiring day, Dio curled up next to his siblings. His multicolored gaze rested on his mother, and he smiled, but his dazzling grin was a faint reminder of whose genes he really carried. Dio yawned, showing his healthy pink gums and tiny white teeth. Slowly, he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
A shadow moved through the forest, the only thing visible it's strange blue and silver eyes. They seemed to float like orbs in the darkness. Dio felt as the hunter should feel: powerful, dangerous, quick, and cunning. Only thing was, it was not prey he was hunting for. He felt his muscles flex as he walked, the sinew stretching, contracting, with each step. There was murder in his heart as he approached the river, eyes spotting a dark figure hiding in the boughs of a willow tree. As Dio crossed the river, he noticed it had a very strong current.......
The figure crouched before him rose to meet his gaze. "The charm, I-I lost it.", the wolf stammered. Dio's orange aura sprang up, dancing above his fur like flames. He certainly looked terrifying. "You lose it? Oh Greyback, I'm so disappointed...", Dio sighed calmly, but there was no mistake; he was furious. "Diogenes, I-", the wolf named Greyback began, but Dio had used the molecules surrounding the other wolf to levitate him and thrust him into the trunk of the tree. "It's Dio.", he growled. He didn't feel himself worthy enough to carry his real father's name. He was a great wolf; a legend. Dio took a threatening step towards Greyback, and concentrated his mind. Silver light flowed from the unfortunate victim; it was Greyback's life force. The wolf seemed to deflate as the precious substance flowed from him. Dio looked down at Greyback with no emotion in his eyes. "You have failed me. It seems I shall have to find the crystal myself.", he said softly.
As the dream faded, Dio woke up. He was confused, amazed, and enthralled at what he had seen. Had it been a vision? Dio looked out the window up at the moon, which hung in an indigo-pink sky. Dawn had come. But yet, the pup felt strange stirrings within him. He felt he was too young to understand what he had seen, but he HAD seen it; saw his older self. Dio wondered if he just imagined all this. Perhaps he himself was the same; imagined into being. Was he really just a non-sentient being, wished into existence, or was he sentient, but not fully whole? Had he been created by the darkness in the hearts of all wolves? Did he even have a heart? The drummings against his chest answered the question. In his deep thinking, Dio had not noticed that the others where beginning to stir.....
