Recif and Lyric were in the Sun's Death camp with the rest of SD and the renegades. Lyric was babbling about some wolf she had hunted down when Recif stopped her. "Someone is here." He woofed. Footsteps came from the entrance.
a few hours earlier
Kayto snarled, his eyes blazing. Venus stood in front of him, her pelt stained red. "What are you doing?" She howled, her voice rough from exhaustion. "You have Riverpack, isn't that enough?" Kayto snarled. "It is never enough! No matter what I do, Recif will never really approve of me. I'll never be good enough for him!" Venus stared at him. "Why does it matter so much?" Kayto didn't answer. "I loved you Kayto! Wasn't that ever enough? Why can't you love me back instead of wasting your time on them?" She glared at Kayto, who stared at her as if she was going insane. "Loved?" He asked, his voice was softer and he looked as if she had hit him. "I didn't know that, Venus." She was still mad.
"Well then your the only one! You were so wrapped up playing leader that you didn't care enough to love me back, or even notice me." She woofed, the anger went out of her, leaving her sad and dejected. Kayto shook his head. "I thought you would hate me. But I guess I was wrong. Is it to late to say I love you to?" It was Venus's turn to stare. "It'll never be to late for you."

Kayto walked into the camp, Venus by his side. Ellie and Rogue flanked them. "Recif. I'm ending this. And I've brought the packs. None of you will survive." The packs appeared and stepped up behind Kayto. "Your dead, Recif."
Lyric laughed, Black tears fell from her pelt. "Your going to kill me?" She asked, "COme try!" A jagged bolt of black flew across the clearing. Venus snarled and jumped in front of Kayto. "Not this time!" She snarled. As the black engulfed her she fell to the ground, twitching and clenching her teeth in agony. Kayto bounded across the clearing. He landed on Recif's back.

"Please, we can defeat them!" Kayto pleaded. Ellie and Rogue shifted uncomfortably behind him. They didn't trust the packs any more that he did. It was to bad the packs shared that state of mind. "Why should we trust you?" One of the leaders asked. "You took one of my lives." Another put in. "I wouldn't trust you to make decisions for one of my apprentices, let alone all four packs!" Venus snarled. "Can't you just forget what he's done for the moment, who's the threat, the wolf apologizing to you, or the one killing your kits?" Some of the wolves in the background hissed. Rogue lanced around uneasily. "Fine." One of the leaders answered. "And if you fail, the blood of all these wolves will be on your paws forever, and It will mark your life." Kayto narrowed his eyes. "This won't fail." He didn't add that the blood of enough wolves was on his paws already. They hadn't always been that ugly red color.

Recif dodged. "Don't bother helping." He added. "Traitors don't need the dignity of dying by more than one set of claws." Kayto snarled. He ducked under Recif's stomach, raking his belly. Recif collapsed on top of him, knocking out Kayto's breath and raking his claws down his sides. Kayto threw his head up sharply, slamming into Recif's head. This hurt him more than Recif, and for a moment his world went black.
"Are you going insane Kayto?" Venus yelled at him. "What are you thinking?" Kayto stayed calm. "I'm expendable. If I die the world will be a better place, rid of two enemies at one time." Venus blanched. "No! Your not like that. If you die the world will be broken and colorless. I'll die without you!" Kayto clenched his jaws. "You will not die." He woofed. Forcing the words on to her.
Present
Venus twitched, throwing the black off of her. She lay panting, wondering what was happening. Why had it stopped? ANother question beat at her skull. The pups. What if Kayto's pups were dead? Him, the pups. So many things to loose...
Kayto snarled and threw Recif off him. He grabbed Recif's leg and tugged, recif laughed again, jerking back and throwing Kayto off balance.
Ellie landed in a heap with Lyric. "I should have killed you moons ago!" She snarled. Lyric growled. "If only you'd been stronger, yeah, like that would happen you can't even kill mice!"
Kayto kicked Recif weakly, Recif shrugged it off. He grabbed Kayto's scruff and threw him a few fox lengths. Kayto landed on his hind legs, slamming down on Recif when he got near enough. Recif twisted around and sank his teeth into Kayto's neck.
