It was a quiet, Leaf-fall day in the forest. Perfect for a certain puppy-pet to start practicing her ranges and songs. A strikingly beautiful hound sat on the perfect green grass in her fenced-in back yard, the moonlight shining off the bird baths. Her extra long tan fur on her head, was a wonderful waterfall of diva hair, topped with a large black bow. Around her neck sat a dainty black collar. The slender hound sat up, ready to sing.
Dixie took in a deep breath before starting to croon. "Oooooh, wowowowowowow," she sang, her voice hitting every note perfectly and adding a country twist to it. "It's lonely at the top when the lights go down and the cheering stops you've got no real friends. no place to call home!! its all good doggie, but no bone No no no no!" her voice was in the wind, beautiful and country.

Nefertiti was lounging in her yard when she was stirred by someone singing. I wonder who could possibly be singing at this hour, she thought. The slender Pharoah hound rose to her paws and trotted over to the fence, and saw Dixie. The new dog that just moved in, but my word can she sing. Nefertiti sat down and listened, waiting patiently.

"He doesn't write, doesn't call, doesn't howl your name. All that he can think about is fortune and fame. There ain't nothing I can do to turn his head and excite him, sometimes I swear I just wanna bite him!" she sang again, light and wonderful. Something out of the corner of her eye made her stop singing. Must be the neighbors, she thought. Smiling prettily, she padded over to the fence. "Howdy there," she welcomed, purely southern. "Nice to meet ya' Nefertiti! I'm Dixie," she smiled. She could hear something mumbling from the other side of her fence. "D'ya hear that?" she asked, becoming a little scared.

"Yes.", Nefertiti replied quietly, and scanned the area where the mumbling came from. There were two dark figures.

Dixie froze in terror. A dog eating another dog? How sick! "Nef..... follow me!!" she stuttered. Dixie whirled around and leaped over the fence, running as fast as she could go into the woods.

"No! That's where they took Nikumu!", Nefertiti called after Dixie. She turned and glared at Mayne, her short, cinnamon fur bristling. She wasn't about to let some bully get in her way. "You just scared away my friend you freak!", she snarled.

Looking very much confused, Nefertiti relaxed the fur on her hackles, but was still wary. "Maybe you should learn how to hunt.", she suggested.

Dixie heard Nef growling behind her. "Oh dear! Oh what to do..." she muttered, stopping. A sudden scream pierced the air. The pretty hound growled. "Grr....HANG ON NEF!" Dixie howled, running back to her fence. With a semi-perfect leap, she landed beside the Egyptian hound, her hackles raised.

Nefertiti looked at Dixie, and then at Mayne, unsure of what to do.
